Pedaling with a Purpose

Saturday February 1st - Tandem Cycle, Asbury Park NJ

Saturday February 8th - Cycle Bar, Culver City, CA

Spin Away The Sun is an exhilarating charity event, similar to a BIKE-A-THON or a WALK-A-THON, on stationary bikes designed to support the Shadow Jumpers nonprofit organization.

The funds raised during this Spin-a-Thon will aid Shadow Jumpers in their mission to offer meaningful experiences and foster a sense of community for families living with photosensitive conditions.

In 2024 Shadow Jumpers launched SUN ESCAPE, a yearly transformative camp weekend that is designed purposefully with photosensitive families in mind. Every aspect of this experience is set sun proofed inside or purposely in the late evening. Activities include, archery, horseback riding, zip lining and a water park. Completely free for those who attend, Sun Escape focuses on removing the sun, so families can spend their time focusing on the fun.

Raising Money

Much like a "Bike-a-Thon" or "Walk-a-Thon," Shadow Jumpers and their volunteer riders connect with their networks to promote the event. Supporters can contribute by making a donation to show their backing for this initiative.

Breaking a Sweat

While a Bike-a-Thon or Walk-a-Thon is typically measured by distance, our Spin-a-Thon focuses on time. Participants unite for a continuous 2.5-hour spin class aimed at raising awareness for a worthy cause.

  • Shadow Jumpers are our true life superheroes

“When they came into our lives, we were struggling parents filled with uncertainty and anxiety about Sissy’s health and EPP. We needed them more than they’ll ever know. From giving Sissy a new basement and bedroom to escape the sun to our incredible weekend with the San Jose Sharks. They made our entire family feel special and we cannot thank them enough. We are extremely grateful to be part of their story.”

Item 1 of 7

Since 2020, Spin Away the Sun has helped fundraise over $114,000 for photosensitive families, with a record setting $60,000 raised during our most recent event. Last year’s volunteers cycled a collective total of 1,968 miles over the course of their 2.5 hour ride. That’s an estimated total of 67,500 calories burned on a Saturday afternoon!
